Streambuilder IDMark

Forensic Video Watermarking for Live and VOD

Protect premium video content with invisible personalized watermarking
that identifies the source of leaks without generating unique video streams
for every viewer.
About us

Why Video Platforms Need Forensic Watermarking

DRM protects content until playback; after decryption, the video is no longer fully under the rights holder’s control.
Generating a separate watermarked video stream for every viewer increases infrastructure costs and limits scalability.
Visible watermarks can be hidden, cropped or bypassed, making the source of a leak harder to identify.

Traditional protection either fails to identify the source of leaks or becomes

prohibitively expensive to scale

How IDMark’s A/B Watermarking Works

Streambuilder IDMark generates a unique user mark without creating a separate video stream for each viewer. The technology uses
a combination of two specially prepared streams and assembles a personalized playlist directly at the moment the content is delivered to the user.
The solution scales to audiences
of any size without a significant increase
in infrastructure costs.

Preparing A/B Video Streams

Comparison of traditional video protection approaches and their limitations
Two streams with different encoding parameters are prepared for the technology to operate. Based on them, unique user playlists are generated.

It supports all modern video delivery protocols: HLS, DASH, MP4, RTMP, WebRTC, SRT, SDI, and others.

The technology is fully compatible with ABR, ensuring that the identifier remains intact regardless of the selected playback quality.

Encoding parameter variations are imperceptible to the human eye and do not affect the user experience.

Creating a Unique Watermark for Each Viewer

Each user is assigned a unique identifier.

When forming the playlist, the system sequentially combines segments from two pre‑prepared streams:

Stream A corresponds to the value “1”. Stream B corresponds to the value “0”

The resulting sequence forms a unique digital signature of the user, embedded into the video stream.

The contrast changes are for demonstration purposes only, the actual encoding is imperceptible to the human eye

Tracing Video Leaks to Their Source

When a pirated copy is detected, the client uses an analysis tool.
The system allows you to quickly identify the source of the leak and take appropriate action.

Possible actions include:
  • immediate blocking of the violator’s access;
  • disconnection from the stream;
  • content replacement with a copyright infringement warning;
  • initiation of internal response and incident investigation procedures.
Video leak investigation and viewer identification
The system enables rapid response measures against the violator once a leak is detected.
